Course correction with The Odin Project
Where to go? I asked myself after accepting my first defeat in my career change journey. Mobile development? Not really, I grew up with desktop computers so cell phones were not my thing actually. Web development? That didn't sound too crazy and I'd heard that learning that wasn't as hard as other areas like desktop application, so I chose it. My next task was to find out how to learn that for free.
I browsed the web for a long time to make a well informed decision. During that time, lots of articles, bootcamps and courses popped up on my screen but I wasn't convinced to take any of them. I think that happened because I wanted to study backend development exclusively and most results were frontend development oriented. On the other hand, I knew deep down that opting out frontend development would have been a mistake but I didn't know how to get a learning program that covered both areas until I read about Full Stack development.
Maybe I'm wrong but I found about The Odin Project in a forum, it could be somewhere else though. Anyway, I got an idea of what it was about and looked up opinions, reviews and testimonials that could give me strong reasons to sign up. Everything looked right, the platform was free to use and it said that completing the curriculum would depending on your learning pace.
The Odin Project is a great full stack development learning program that some students finish in six months while some others like me take longer. In my case, I took much longer because I made sure I learned each topic well. My goal was to get strong skills to be a proficient programmer not to be hired quickly and that would need me to avoid tutorials, write my own code always, fix silly and hard to find bugs, self doubt, lots of patience, a great deal of motivation and a deep love for coding.
This tic tac toe project is one of those I learned lots from.
